EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The Equestrian Center is staffed by knowledgeable and enthusiastic students who share their love of horses. There are jobs available in the areas of instruction, barn supervision, feeding, maintenance, and stall cleaning. Instructors start as teaching assistants and are trained, evaluated and mentored. Barn supervisors are responsible for treatment and care of the herd. Educational seminars are required quarterly for both instructors and barn supervisors. We are looking for dynamic people to join our staff and to share their passion for horses with others. If you are interested, call 752-2372.

JOB DESCRIPTIONS
  • Riding Instructors & Teaching Assistants

Teach English or Western horseback riding lessons to UCD students, staff and the general public.

  • Barn Supervisors

Provie assistance in all aspectts of the EQC programs and facilities. Perform horse care duties, and medical treatments as directed, to keep the herd healthy and happy.

  • Weekend Feeders

Learn to drive the tractor, distribute hay to horses an dload the freed cart. This position is responsible for feeding the school horses as well as the boarders’ horses.

  • Stall Cleaners

If you are comfortable around horses, this may be the job for you! Clean and rebed horse stalls annd paddocks.

  • Maintenance

Learn the essentials of Equestrian facillity maintance. Drive the tractor and bobcat, assist in dragging arenas, mowing the grass field, fixing fenses and waterers, empty trash and help keep us looking great!

 

MENTORING PROGRAM

The Instructor Mentor Program is the pairing of advanced student instructors, knowledgeable in Equestrian Center (EQC) programs, with newly hired student instructors of varying levels. The Instructor Mentor Program has been developed to insure consistency of instructional techniques, safety methods, and class content through the mentor-student relationship. The program is designed to promote mentor leadership, supervisor and role model skills, as well as to provide new instructors the opportunity to learn the EQC programs and improve their teaching skills. New instructors receive feedback from their mentors on such topics as handling group lessons, safety methods, horse behavior and assessment of student riding abilities. If you are interested in becoming involved in the Mentor Program as a new instructor, call 752-2372 and ask for Holly.
